Boulders Fall Despite Last Inning Comeback

Boulders drop franchise record 11th straight

(POMONA, NY)- The struggling Boulders (38-35), matched a franchise record eleven straight losses, falling to the visiting Trois-Rivieres Aigles (26-48)

The visiting Aigles got off to a fast start. On just the third pitch of the game, center fielder Jiwan James blasted a home run over the right field bleachers to put his team up 1-0. The Boulders bats had no answer in the home half of the inning.

The Aigles added onto their lead in the following inning. Connor Crane led off the inning with a standup double and was advanced to third base the following at bat via a sacrifice bunt by Yeixon Ruiz. A wild pitch by Boulders pitcher Brett Palanski allowed Ruiz to reach base safely and Crane to score. Jiwan James would get his second RBI in as many innings on a fielder’s choice to second base. Ryan Brockett tacked on a RBI of his own furthering the Aigles lead to 4 after two innings of play.

Boulders pitcher Brett Palanski was replaced headed into the fourth inning after pitching 3 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs. Palanski was pitching in his first professional game since 2009 when he was a member of the Can-Am champions Quebec Capitales.

The Boulders got on the board in the 8th inning. Pat McKenna scored on a fielder’s choice. Mike Fransoso posted the lone Rockland RBI.

Trois-Rivieres added on an insurance run in the top half of the ninth. Yeixon Ruiz led off the inning with a bunt, and advanced to second via a Jason Byers and made it to third via a Jason Byers wild pitch. Ruiz was brought home by a Kyle Lafrenz double.

The Boulders made a bid at a comeback in their final at-bat. The leadoff batter Devin Harris blasted a solo home run to right field to cut the deficit to a score of 5-2. With the two outs and the bases loaded #13 was walked and Jared Schlehuber would come around to score. The Boulders were unable to score again, falling 5-3.

The Boulders will look to turn things around tomorrow at 7:00pm as they host Trois-Rivieres in the third game of a four game series at Palisades Credit Union Park.
