Matt Nandin was a linchpin in the Boulders infield for three different seasons, from 2012-2014, setting numerous franchise records in the process.
However, nowadays, the native New Yorker finds himself out of professional baseball, having retired after the Boulders championship season in 2014. He now is an assistant coach at Syracuse University’s women’s softball team. He started working there in 2013, along with his wife Linsday, who is the program’s director of softball operations. He first started coaching baseball at LeMoyne University, his alma mater in 2010. He was offered the job by his former head coach due to his historic performances at the college during his four year tenure. After a few seasons at LeMoyne, he decided to change sports and go to Syracuse, with his first full season coming in 2014, while he was still preparing for his season with the Boulders.
His program has found success recently however, posting program records in batting average, and slugging percentage after his first full season there. He has also helped implement shifting into this team’s infield, making Syracuse one of the few colleges in the nation to do so. With the success that he has found on a major program, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Nandin earn a head coaching job elsewhere soon.
After a spectacular four year career at LeMoyne in upstate New York, Nandin went undrafted, leading him to then start play in the Can-Am league. He began his professional career with now defunct New Hampshire in 2009. He then moved to Pittsfield for the next two seasons, the last of which, he played under now Boulders manager Jamie Keefe. The two would be reunited in 2013 in Rockland. After a half season with the New Jersey Jackals, the dependable infielder was traded to the Boulders, where he would stay until the end of the 2014 season.
Once there, Nandin was a leader for the Boulders in the infield and at the plate. His success has him near the top in most offensive franchise records. He is third in hits (211), fifth in walks (70) and third in at-bats (736). On top of that, Nandin was on the field when the Boulders when the Can-Am league championship in 2014. During his two and a half seasons with Rockland, Nandin played in 195 games, one of the highest marks in franchise history as well. The best season of his career came in Pittsfield in 2010, when he set career marks in homers (8), hits (118), and RBI (48).
