Ryan Stovall was an outfielder with the Rockland Boulders for part of two seasons, from 2014-2015. In 2014, he hit the third most home runs in a single season in Boulders franchise history with 17.
So where is the bashing right-fielder now that he isn’t roaming the green pastures of Palisades Credit Union Park? Well now he is currently an assistant baseball coach at his former college, Thomas University in Georgia. He actually joined the coaching staff in September of 2014 following the Boulders Can-Am League championship victory. Stovall would return to the Boulders in the early part of 2015 to take 29 more at-bats in seven games with the squad, but after being released he continued work on the Thomas coaching staff full time.
Thomas University is in the NAIA, which is compared most often to D-II level of play in the NCAA. After graduating from the school in 2009, Stovall became the first and only baseball player to ever be drafted in the school’s history. Such a distinction made it easier for the alum to return in a coaching role to the school from which he earned a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary studies with a focus on business.
Before the Florida native found his way to Pomona, Stovall played in affiliated ball for four years, as well as making a stop in Fargo-Moorhead in the American Association in the 2012 season. After reaching AAA Reno in the Diamondbacks organization in 2013, Stovall was released, where he then signed with the Boulders to begin 2014. In his only full season with the club, Stovall mashed 17 home runs, hit to a .312/.353/.525 triple slash line, and drove in 72 runs.
