Rockland Reaches Postseason for Third Straight Season

(AUGUSTA, NJ) – Once again it was the Rockland bats coming to life, securing an 8-2 win at Sussex County and clinching a berth in 2016 Can-Am League playoffs. The Boulders (50-39) are in the postseason for the third straight year and are now in second place in the league with 11 games remaining.

Rockland opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning when Leandro Castro roped a two-out, two-run single off starting pitcher Danny Moskovits. The Miners (37-52) tied it up in the bottom of the second on a run-scoring double from Nate Irving and an RBI groundout Chris Chiaradio. Boulders pitcher Jason Byers would settle down from there, working in and out of trouble over the next four innings.

With the score tied 2-2 heading into the fourth, Mike Montville broke the deadlock with a triple, scoring Castro. He would later score on a sacrifice fly from Elvin Soto, making it a 4-2 Boulders lead. Two batters later, Junior Arrojo doubled in Mike Fransoso, tacking on an insurance run. They would eventually score three more runs, including a Mike Fransoso homer, clinching their third straight trip to the postseason.

Byers (3-1) got the win going six innings, allowing just two runs and striking out three. The loss was charged to Moskovits (1-3) who allowed five runs on 10 hits in his six innings of work. Both Castro and Soto paced the offense with two RBI, but Castro and Fransoso had four hits apiece to lead the way.

The Boulders return home on Friday, August 26th as they host the Miners, continuing this split series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00pm at Palisades Credit Union Park. The world-famous Phillie Phanatic will make a return appearance to Pomona to entertain and mingle with fans.
