Rockland Wins Fifth Straight Behind Stellar Pitching

(AUGUSTA, NJ) – Bo Budkevics tossed seven shutout innings as the Rockland Boulders went on to defeat the Sussex County Miners 5-0 at Skylands Stadium on Saturday night. The win was the fifth in a row for Rockland (52-39) and puts them in a position to sweep the Miners (37-54) tomorrow afternoon.

The Boulders came up with clutch scoring when they needed to, getting on the board first in the top of the third inning. Both Marcus Nidiffer and Jared Schlehuber had two-out RBI doubles, giving Rockland a 2-0 lead. Elvin Soto added to the advantage with a sacrifice fly off Michael Suk in the fourth, scoring Mike Montville.  Rockland also got a pair of RBI hits from Devin Harris, who went 3-for-4 with a walk, to complete the scoring.

Budkevics (5-4) was dominant throughout, allowing only four singles and striking out four in his seven innings of work. The Miners were unable to get a runner to second base until the bottom of the ninth inning when Dominique Taylor walked, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He would be stranded there though as Mike Adams induced a game-ending groundout from Chris Jacobs to preserve the shutout.

The loss was charged to Suk (7-7) who allowed three runs on five hits, striking out three and walking. He only pitched four and one-third innings, getting ejected for arguing balls and strikes after walking the bases loaded in the fifth inning.

Rockland completed with road schedule with a 25-23 record and now look to complete the sweep tomorrow at Palisades Credit Union Park with a 5:00pm first pitch. Great seats are still available at the box office, or by sliding to www.RocklandBoulders.com.
