Lefty Gets First League Award of 2016

(POMONA, NY) – The Can-Am League’s official statistician, Pointstreak, announced today that Richard Salazar was named the Pitcher of the Week after his dominant performance during the week of August 22nd. The lefty went 2-0 in two starts without allowing a run as he set a Can-Am record with 27.1 straight scoreless innings.

Salazar’s two stellar outings came as part of a current four-start win streak for the southpaw, in which he has not given up a single run. During the week he allowed just five hits and struck out nine while only walking five batters in 14 total innings. The first start came in a 5-1 win at Ottawa on August 23rd while the second was a 4-2 victory at home against Sussex County yesterday.

Furthering the impressive nature of his performance, by keeping the Miners off the board in the second inning of Sunday’s contest, Salazar broke the Can-Am League record for most consecutive innings without allowing a run, surpassing Quebec’s Jon Fitzsimmons streak of 22 straight innings.

Overall this year, Salazar is 9-6 with a 3.33 ERA and 96 total strikeouts. The lefty ranks second in the league in wins, fourth in strikeouts, and 10th in ERA and needs just one more victory to eclipse the 100 win milestone.

Both Salazar and the Boulders will end the regular season with a seven-day home stand beginning on Tuesday, August 30th when they welcome in the Ottawa Champions for a 7:00pm first pitch at Palisades Credit Union Park. Great seats are still available by visiting the box office, calling (845) 364-0009 or sliding to www.RocklandBoulders.com.
