Boulders Sweep Ottawa To Extend Win Streak

BOULDERS WIN 9TH STRAIGHT BEHIND DAVID FISCHER

(Pomona, NY) – The Rockland Boulders (56-39) defeated the Ottawa Champions by the score of 6-2 Thursday night at Palisades Credit Union Park. The win completes the sweep for the Boulders who also extend there winning streak to 9 games.
 

The Boulders struck first in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Jared Schlehuber, fresh off being named Player of the Month for August, started the inning with a walk. Devin Harris then followed with a single. Leandro Castro drove in Schlehuber with an RBI single to make it 1-0 Rockland. The next hitter, Mike Montville, followed with an RBI hit bringing home Harris to make it 2-0 after 2 innings.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the 7th. Elvin Soto and Mike Fransoso started off with back to back singles. Junior Arrojo followed by drawing a walk and then Marcus Nidiffer recorded a 2-run RBI single to make it 4-0 Rockland. Nidiffer now has 69 RBI's on the season. After Jared Schlehuber drew a walk to load the bases, Leandro Castro drove in Marcus Nidiffer with an RBI single to make it 5-0.

After Ottawa put 2 runs on the board in the top of the 8th, the Boulders responded in the bottom half. A leadoff home run for Mike Montville made it 6-2 Boulders.  Pat Butler, who limited the damage in the top of the 8th got the final three outs with a perfect 9th inning.

It was a strong night for Boulders starter David Fischer. Fischer pitched 6 innings allowing no runs on just three hits while walking two and striking out five. Mike Adams pitched an inning of relief allowing just one hit while walking one and a strikeout. Daniel Carela walked three while giving up two runs in less than an inning of work.

The Boulders close out the 2016 regular season this weekend at home against the New Jersey Jackals in a 4 game series. A sweep for the Boulders would clinch their third consecutive Can-Am League regular season title. Tickets are still available by visiting the box office,
