Marcus Nidiffer powers the Boulders with 2 homers

POMONA, NY- In a continuation of an earlier suspended game, the Boulders outpaced the New Jersey Jackals 6-3 behind back-to-back home runs by Leandro Castro and Marcus Nidiffer.
On August 21st, the Jackals (59-46) struck first in the second inning off of Rockland starter Bo Budkevics. However, in the bottom half, Rockland (57-39) first baseman Jared Schlehuber crushed a home run to tie up the game. The fireworks continued in the rain when Marcus Nidiffer blasted a two-run shot in the third inning, driving in Leandro Castro and giving the Boulders a 3-1 lead.
New Jersey wouldn’t be outdone however, as they would two runs of their own off of a two-run homerun by Art Charles. The rain then came out even stronger right at the end of the fourth inning, causing the umpires to call for the game to be suspended and made up on another day.
The game resumed in the top of the fifth inning, with the New Jersey Jackals up to bat. Right from the beginning, they were shut down by Matt Kostalos (1-0) during his four innings on the mound. He had no problem breezing through the New Jersey lineup, He struck out three batters, while only allowing one hit and one walk en route to earning his win with the Boulders.
The Boulders meanwhile had no problem teeing off on Lee Sosa during his three innings of work. The first blow came in the fifth, when Schlehuber drove in another run, this time on a sac-fly, with Junior Arrojo scoring the run. Leandro Castro and Marcus Nidiffer would then hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh, extending the lead to 6-3, and effectively burying New Jersey for good. Nidiffer led the way for the offense, hitting his two home runs, earning three RBI, scoring two runs, finishing 2-3.
Pat Butler earned his third save of the season when he came in and pitched a perfect ninth inning.
The win allowed the Boulders to pull within two games of New Jersey for the Can-Am division lead. Including Game 2, which will be played immediately afterward the first, the Boulders will have four games against the Jackals, giving them plenty of time to make up the ground, and earn their third consecutive pennant.
