Mike Montville hits towering blast to save season

POMONA, NY- Mike Montville capped off an incredible game with a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the ninth to keep the Boulders season alive, as they toppled Quebec Capitales 16-15 at Palisades Credit Union Park Saturday night.
Rockland (1-2) started Brett Palanski, and from the beginning it didn’t look good for the Boulders. He only lasted .2 innings, after allowing four runs, three earned, with Maxx Tissenbaum’s three-run homerun being the big blast in the first.
The Boulders wouldn’t be outdone however, as they struck back every time Quebec scored. Jared Schlehuber started it off with an RBI double in the first, but the ball kept rolling from there. The Boulders scored at least a run in every inning save for the eighth and sixth.
Jamie Keefe said before the game that it was all hands on deck in terms of the pitching responsibilities, and he stuck with that. In the end, the Boulders put out seven different pitchers through the game.
Leandro Castro led the offense throughout the game, starting with an RBI double in the first inning. He would finish the game 3-5 with five RBI, one run scored, and a homer. Every single Boulders starter had a hit, except for Pat McKenna, but even he scored a run in the game.
At one point, the Boulders went down 11-6, but even then they would not quit. They continued to claw back into the game until Marcus Nidiffer put them ahead with a towering blast over the right field fence to give them a 13-11 lead in the fifth, the same inning Quinnton Mack hit a solo shot.
Hector Nelo (1-0) came in and finished the eighth for Pat Butler, but with a two run lead in the ninth, he began to struggle. Eventually, he walked in the tying run with two outs, forcing the game to the bottom of the ninth. With two outs, Mike Montville blasted a moonshot to one of the deepest portions of the ballpark in left-center off of Karl Gelinas (0-1), giving the Boulders the win, keeping the season alive for another day.
Game 4 of the Can-Am league semifinals will be at Palisades Credit Union Park Sunday night at 6 PM. Great seats are still available as the Boulders are trying to keep their season alive yet again.
