The Rockland Boulders announced today the return of outfielder and 1st baseman, Jon Smith via  trade with the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association.  The 28-year old Tennessee native and Wesleyan College alum played for Rockland in 2012.  

Smith, a 7-year veteran, played 41 games for the Boulders, compiling a .266 batting average with 10 HR, 28 RBI, 37 hits, and 19 walks, while maintaining a .368 OBP.  Last season, Smith appeared in 91 games for Lincoln with 12 HR, 52 RBI, 71 hits, and stole 5 bases.  Smith also shined defensively with 133 putouts and 7 assists.

“We are pleased to have Jon return to Palisades Credit Union Park for his second stint as a Boulder,” said Field Manager Jamie Keefe.  “Jon brings a left handed stick to the plate which will hopefully allow for him to take advantage of the Budweiser Short Porch in right field.  In addition, our ballpark is a tricky place to play in the outfield with a small patch of grass and a low level angular wall in right field that just explodes into a ‘death valley’ at 413 feet in left center.  Jon’s experience playing here previously will provide us with a defensive home field advantage.” 

Smith and the rest of the Boulders will begin their seventh season with a #BouldOpening on Thursday, May 18th when they host the Sussex County Miners at 7:00pm at Palisades Credit Union Park.
