Boulders Fan favorite returns; More added to roster

The Rockland Boulders announced today they have re-signed fan favorite OF Jared McDonald, INF Aaron Wilson and acquired RHP Alex Farina for the 2017 season.

McDonald, 29, has spent the last two seasons with the Boulders, where he set the minor league baseball record for most consecutive games reaching base safely, with 75.  This put him second all-time on the list of reaching base safely in consecutive games, just behind Hall of Famer Ted Williams who holds the record with 84.  During his time with the Boulders, McDonald has 17 home runs and 94 RBI. His .289 batting average in 2016 was second on the Boulders.  Last year McDonald’s season was cut short when he was injured attempting a diving catch in Sussex and required season ending surgery.

McDonald, a native of Tucson Arizona, started his professional career in 2009 after being drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 21st round of the June MLB Amateur Draft.  During his eight year professional career, has also played for the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League, as well as the Lincoln SaltDogs, Saint Paul Saints and the Wichita Wingnuts of the American Association of Baseball.  McDonald currently owns an independent league career .294 batting average, with 36 home runs and 280 RBIs.

Farina, 23, is a native of New York City, and played college baseball for Lafayette, where he was then signed as a free agent by the Milwaukee Brewers organization.  During the 2016 season with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers of the Midwest League, Farina went 5-2 with a 2.83 ERA with 39 strikeouts in 54 innings.

Wilson, 22, played last year for the Boulders.  In 22 games defensively, Wilson converted on 22 of 24 defensive putout chances in the field, giving him a .958 fielding percentage.  Wilson also pitched in one game last season, throwing 1 and 1/3 innings, giving up one hit, and possessing an ERA of 0.00.

Solbach, 24, pitched last year for the Boulders.  A native of Dormagen Germany, the right-handed pitcher appeared in 10 games for the Boulders, going 6-2 with a 2.43 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 74 innings.  Solbach has been a journeyman in the world of baseball, having originally started in the Gulf Coast League as a member of the Twins organization, and has also played in the Australian Baseball League, Pioneer League Northwest League, Midwest League, Frontier League, and California League as well.

“JMac has been nothing but a warrior for us the last couple of years and a face that everyone has come to know.  It’s nice to see him healthy.  It’s been a long road for him and we’re excited to see him back out there,” stated manager Jamie Keefe.  “Farina is a new arm for us, a new face and a hard thrower.  He should fit right in with us.  Aaron was a fighter last year for us and every time he was called upon, he performed well.  I look forward to him competing for a starting job.”

McDonald, Farina, Wilson, Solbach, and the rest of the Boulders will begin their seventh season with a #BouldOpening on Thursday, May 18th when they host the Sussex County Miners at 7:00pm at Palisades Credit Union Park. Season Ticket Memberships and numerous other ticket packages are currently on-sale and can be purchased by visiting the box office or calling (845) 364-0009.  For more information, slide to Rocklandboulders.com
