Bats come alive and spark a 10-3 win over Sussex

On a day that fans look forward to all off season, fans came out in droves and saw a 10-3 win over the Miners, on a beautiful spring evening.

Richard Salazar (1-0) was named the Sprint Opening Day starter after fans voted all week long via online and social media voting.  Salazar pitched 5 innings and picked up his first win of the season.  Overall, the bullpen performed well as Alex Farina pitched two solid innings in relief, before turning things over to Matt Kostalos in the eighth, and former Mariner Mayckol Guaipe in the ninth.

The bats came alive from the first pitch, as Marcus Nidiffer got things started early and recorded the first hit of the Boulders season.  That set the tone for a flurry of offense, most notably by returning veteran 1B Joe Maloney and OF Jon Smith, who both homered in their 1st game back in Rockland, as well as Jared McDonald who hit a bases clearing triple in the 4th, which blew the game wide open.  RF Mike Montville added two 2 RBI doubles, and Cody Regis, playing in his first game in Rockland, added to the offense, by hitting a home run as well.

The Boulders (1-0) will play game two of this five game series against the Sussex County Miners tomorrow night at 7:05pm at Skylands Stadium, in Augusta, NJ, before returning home to play a double header on Saturday night starting at 6:30pm.
