4-0 start first in franchise history

The Rockland Boulders came into tonight looking to make somethings happen, and make things happen they did.  For the 1st time in franchise history, the Boulders have started the season 4-0, with a 12-3 win in game 1 and a 8-2 win in game 2.

Game 1 was off to a shaky start, as defensively, the Boulders weren’t as sound, and gave up two defensive errors, causing the Miners to jump out to an early 3-0 lead.  Pitcher Markus Solbach (1-0) and the Boulders settled down, and that would be the last the Miners would score.  Solbach pitched five innings, giving up three runs on nine hits, striking out five.

Offensively, the Boulders showed the power of their bats as OF Jon Smith and OF Mike Montville both homered.  Montville added three RBI’s to his total giving him four on the season.  Jared McDonald continued his strong offensive production, going 3-4 with an RBI, giving him 4 on the season as well.

Game 2 saw the debut of the newest member of the Boulders pitching staff, former Major League pitcher CJ Riefenhouser.  Riefenhouser was impressive in his debut, going five innings, giving up two runs on five hits, and struck out seven, picking up his first win.

The offense didn’t let down either in game 2, as OF Jon Smith homered again, making it his 4th home run in as many games.  1B Joe Maloney homered as well, hitting a three run shot in the bottom of the fifth, making the score 8-2, and put the game out of reach.  Second baseman Dylan Tice also made his at bats count, as he went 3 - 3 and was a triple away from hitting for the cycle.  Relief pitcher Alex Farina would come in to take care of the final two innings, and giving the Boulders an 8-2 win.

The Boulders will look to go 5-0 and continue their winning ways later on today against the Miners at 2pm here at Palisades Credit Union Park.
