In game two of a three game series, the Boulders took on the Trois-Rivieres Aigles on the road at Stade Fernand-Bedard stadium in a nail biter from start to finish with the Boulders finishing ahead by a final score of 4-3
Justin Topa making his second start of the season struggled early putting the Boulders behind allowing 2 runs in the first inning. One on a sacrifice fly hit Javier Herrera and another on a fielder’s choice hit by Connor Crane. Topa would get it together after the first inning pitching into the 6th allowing just two earned runs and only three hits.
Making his first start of the season for the Aigles, Guillaume Blanchette held the Boulders scoreless throughthe first two inning. Marcus Nidiffer who hit 20 home runs last season would help the Boulders finally breakthrough in the top of the third with a three-run home run. Nidiffer’s first of the season put the Boulders on the board and gave them a 3-2 lead.
The Boulders would add insurance in the 6th inning, thanks to a double by Mike Montville followed by an rbi single by Alex Herceg that gave the Boulders some breathing room and a 4-2 lead.
Topa’s replacement in the 6th, Ethan Elias struggled replacing Topa giving up two hits and a walk while allowing an inherited runner to score that pushed the score to 4-3. Elias however got the out he needed, getting the final out of the 6th inning with the bases loaded, helping the Boulders hold on to their one run lead.
The bullpen the rest of the game would shut out the Aigles with Elias coming back out in the 7th and pitching a much smoother inning allowing no hits and only one walk. Matt Kostalos would replace Elias in the 8th and pitch a shutout inning recording two strikeouts in the process. The 9th inning was pitched by Mayckol Guaipe who continued his dominate pitching shutting out the Aigles and recording his third save of the season.
The Boulders will look for the sweep Thursday night at 7:05 pm as they play the last game of their road trip before returning to Palisades Credit Union Park for a seven-gamehome stand.
