The Rockland Boulders defeated the Ottawa Champions today by a score of 6-5 thanks to another great team effort by the Boulders.

The game started shaky for Boulders starting pitcher Markus Solbach (2-0), as he gave up a lead off double on the very first pitch of the game to Champions right fielder Adron Chambers.  With Chambers on and one out, left fielder Steven Brown grounded into a fielder’s choice scoring Chambers, and making the score 1-0.

Rockland would come back and tie it in the first after a single by Shortstop Mike Fransoso.  Catcher Marcus Nidiffer walked, and then first baseman Joe Maloney would hit a single to left, bringing home Fransoso and tying the game at 1.

The score would remain the same until the top of the 3rd, when Chambers again would come to the plate and beat out an infield single.  After a pickoff attempt by Solbach that went wild, Chambers would advance to second.  After a wild pitch one pitch later, Chambers would end up on third, coming around to score after second basemen Brian Bistagne would hit a sacrifice fly to right fielder Mike Montville, allowing Chambers to score.

The Boulders would tie it again in the bottom of the third after Nidiffer singled in centerfielder Jared McDonald.  In the top of the fourth, Ottawa first baseman Ricky Oropesa crushed a home run to right field, bringing the score to 3-2.  In the bottom of the fourth, Boulders left fielder Cody Regis hit a two run home run to right, scoring him and Regis, and bringing the score to 4-3.

It would remain that way until the bottom of the sixth after third baseman Cody Regis hit another homerun on the season, scoring him and Joe Maloney.  The Boulders have now hit 20 homeruns in 14 games.

In the top of the ninth, Boulders manager Jamie Keefe called upon his closer Myckol Guaipe to shut the door.  After giving up a two run home run, Guaipe would settle down and retire the last two batters, to give the Boulders their eleventh win of the season.

Today’s victory gave Rockland the win over Ottawa and improved their record to 11-3 on the season, good for first place in the CanAm. Next up for the Boulders will be the final game of the homestand tomorrow against the Ottawa Champions.  First pitch for the game will be at 10:30 a.m.
