Rockland looked to get back in the win column following last nights heartbreaking extra-inning loss but unfortunately came up short again dropping their second game in a row to the Quebec Capitales 6 to 4.

Richard Salazar entered the game on a roll winning all three of his decisions this year but he ran in to trouble early. Philippe Craig- St-Louis greeted Salazar with a single and Yordan Manduley followed with a run scoring double to get the Capitales off to a 1-0 advantage.

Salazar again ran into difficulty in the second when the first two batters of the inning singled and Taylor Oldham drove in the second run of the game with a double to left. Adam Ehrlich’s would then come to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly which staked the Capitales to a 3-0 lead after two.

Rockland began a comeback in the third when Mike Montville and Jared McDonald opened the frame with a single and a double. Dylan Tice then reached on an infield single that brought home Montville to put the Boulders on the board. Mike Fransoso then grounded into a 6-4-3 double play that scored Tice cutting the deficit to 3-2.

Salazar continued to run into trouble in the third when he opened the inning by hitting Maxx Tissenbaum with a pitch. After a single and a fielders choice the stage was set for Yurisbel Gracial who smashed a double to center field bringing home two more runs to make the deficit 5-2. Gracial was then brought home on a double by James McOwen making the score 6-2 Quebec after three.

The Boulders were able to keep themselves in the game with stellar relief performances by both Thomas Lawrence and Ethan Elias who combined for five strikeouts over five scoreless innings.

The Boulders added two more runs in the top of the seventh when Joe Bennie led off the inning with a single and was brought home on Jon Smith’s team leading seventh home run.

The comeback fizzled from there as the Capitales bullpen also rose to the challenge. Miles Moeller struck out five Boulders over 1 and 2/3 innings and Nolan Becker retired the side in the order in the ninth to close out the game.

The Boulders will look to roll back into the win column later today against the Capitales.
