The Rockland Boulders won their sixth straight game by a score of 7-5 against the rival New Jersey Jackals. Dylan Tice had a stellar game reaching base four times. The second baseman’s stat line included two doubles, two walks, a stolen base, two RBIs and four runs scored. Justin Topa (6-0) was the winning pitcher to remain undefeated and claim the league lead for wins. Topa went five innings giving up five runs (three earned). New Jersey’s David Richardson (2-3) took the loss after surrendering six runs (three earned) in 3.2 innings.

Tice got the Boulders going early with a double in the first inning. A second double by Joe Maloney knocked in the first run of the game to give Rockland the early lead. The game flipped in the second inning as the Jackals’ bats came alive.

Brian Burgamy led off with a base hit and scored on a double by Brian Joynt to tie the game. Tommy Brennan reached on an E5 by Cody Regis putting runners on the corners with no outs. Dvontrey Richardson then tripled to drive in two more. After striking out the next batter, Ryan Retz picked up an RBI on a groundout scoring Richardson. An error by shortstop Mike Fransoso kept the inning going as Johnny Bladel reached and later stole second base. Bladel scored on a single by Rylan Sandoval giving New Jersey a 5-1 lead.

Rockland bounced back immediately in the third starting with back-to-back walks from Jared McDonald and Tice. Regis reached on an error by Sandoval at shortstop allowing McDonald to score. Maloney’s groundout allowed Tice to come home and brought the Boulders within two runs.

In the fourth inning, New Jersey got the first two Boulders out but the team remained resilient. Catcher Alex Herceg singled and McDonald walked to get two runners on base. Both would score on a double by Tice, who later came home an error by third baseman Brennan to give the Boulders the 6-5 lead. At this point, New Jersey was forced to remove Richardson from the game and bring in Isaac Gil.

Tice led off the sixth inning with a walk. He stole second and moved to third base on a groundout. Ryan Retz committed an error at second base during Mike Fransoso’s at bat, which allowed Tice to tack on an insurance run.

The 7-5 score did not change as the Rockland bullpen pitched four shutout innings. Closer Mayckol Guaipe recorded his league leading ninth save of the season to seal the win and sweep. After improving to 25-8 with a 3.5 game lead of first place of the CanAm, the Boulders will return home for a series against the Ottawa Champions starting at 7 p.m. tomorrow.
