The Boulders entered Thursday’s tilt with the Capitales holding a one-game lead atop the Can-Am League. The two teams now share that lead after Quebec’s shutout win to complete a much-needed series sweep.

The contest had the look of a textbook pitcher’s duel after the first three innings. Starters Murilo Gouvea and Markus Solbach were dialed in as Cody Regis and Phil Craig-St-Louis recorded the only two hits.

Quebec would come to life in the fourth with three runs on four hits. Maxx Tissenbaum drove in Jonathan Malo on a single, Yordan Manduley brought home Yurisbel Gracial on a sacrifice fly and Jordan Lennerton scored on an Adam Ehrlich single. The bleeding stopped after Daniel Rockett grounded into a 6-4-3 double play.

The next three innings would go just as the first three went with Gouvea striking out three batters and Solbach punching out two. Both of their nights ended after the seventh.

Gouvea finished with four hits, no runs, three strikeouts and two walks while Solbach concluded with six hits, three earned runs, five strikeouts and one walk.

Rockland got their bats going against Brett Lee in the eighth and gave themselves hope for a comeback. Aaron Wilson pinch hit for newbie Kelvin Ramos and roped a one-out single. Dylan Tice followed up that at-bat with one of his own. Lee then settled in and struck out Regis and Joe Maloney to preserve the lead.

Richard Salazar made his long-awaited return off the disabled list and kept the game 3-0 in the bottom half, but the Boulders’ bats remained quiet in the ninth. Capitales closer Nolan Becker continued his dominance and picked up his 11th save of the season.

Rockland will return home to take on Trois-Rivieres in a three-game series before the All-Star Break. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Palisades Credit Union Park.
