Boulders Reclaim Sole Possession of First Place

Rockland cruised for a 9-0 victory in Saturday’s outing against the Champions. They would cruise yet again in 7-1 fashion today and create some separation from Quebec atop the Can-Am League.

Quiet firsts from starters Daniel Cordero and Justin Topa led to three big innings for the Boulders. They got two in the second on a double from Mikael Mogues that drove in Marcus Nidiffer and Mike Montville.

They would do the same in the third. Cody Regis went yard to make it 3-0 and Nidiffer scored on an error by Ryan Brockett. In the fourth, you guessed it, they brought home two more on a Regis single and Joe Maloney sacrifice fly.. Cordero finished with 3.1 innings, eight hits, six runs (three unearned), four strikeouts and two walks for the Champions.

Ottawa would get one back in the fifth on a Brockett infield single. Topa retired the side to conclude his day with four hits, one earned run, eight strikeouts and one walk.

The bats on both sides went silent in innings six, seven and eight thanks to solid relief from Nick Sarianides, Tommy Lawrence, Raydel Sanchez and Yean Carlos Gil. No hits were recorded in that stretch.

Rockland added their seventh run in the ninth on a Regis double that scored Dylan Tice. Matt Kostalos threw the bottom half and kept the Champions off the board.

The Boulders will resume action tomorrow when they take on the Capitales to begin a three-game series. First pitch is set for 7 p.m at Stade Canac.
