Boulders Lose 6-4

Coming off a series split vs. the Champions the Boulders traveled to Quebec to start a first place matchup vs. the Capitales. They sent Markus Solbach to the mound vs. the Capitales’ Karl Gelinas. 

 

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd inning when the Capitales came to the plate. Adam Ehrlich, the Capitales designated hitter, led off the inning with a triple. Two batters later Lachlan Fontaine, the Capitales thirdbaseman, hit a ball that Dylan Tice booted, scoring Ehrlich and letting Fontaine reach first safely. After a single putting runners at first and third with one out, Yurisbel Gracial, the Capitales shortstop, hit a grounder that Cody Regis mishandled, scoring Fontaine making the lead 2-0. 

 

In the next inning Maxx Tissenbaum, the Capitales catcher, led off with a single.Yordan Manduley, the Capitales secondbaseman, also singled putting runners at first and second with no outs. After another single that loaded the bases for Marcus Knecht, the Capitales rightfielder singled scoring Tissenbaum making the lead 3-0 after 4 innings. 

 

In the top of the 5th inning the Boulders came storming back to tie the game at 3. Mike Montville led off the inning with a walk. Two batters later Aaron Wilson hit into a fielder’s choice taking Montville’s spot at first. After a single by Fransoso putting runners on first and second for Dylan Tice, Tice hit a double a double scoring both Fransoso and Wilson making the score 3-2. After a single by Cody Regis, Tice scored on a wild pitch to get the score back to 3-3.

 

In the bottom of the 8th inning the Capitales would put a couple hits together to take the lead once again. Marcus Knecht hit a double with one out and advanced to third on a grounder by Lachlan Fontaine. Philippe Craig-St-Louis, the Capitales centerfielder, hit a single scoring Knecht to give the Capitales the 4-3 lead heading to the 9th.

 

Mike Montville would get things going again for the Boulders in the top of the 9th with a walk. Two batters later he advanced to second on a wild pitch. Mike Fransoso then came up to the plate and hit a clutch game tying single to tie the score at 4. 

 

In the bottom half of the 9th inning the Capitales had their 4-5-6 hitters coming up to the plate. Jordan Lennerton, the Capitales firstbaseman, walked to lead off the inning. Maxx Tissenbaum followed that walk with a two run homer to give the Capitales the 6-4 win in walk-off fashion. 

 

The Boulders will look to retake their first place lead in the CanAm League standings tomorrow as they take on the Capitales in the second of the three game series for first place.
