Rockland entered Tuesday’s meeting with the Capitales tied atop the Can-Am League and looking to take a one game lead with a win. Instead, they fell one back after a 5-1 Quebec victory.

Starters Arik Sikula and Richard Salazar produced solid first and second innings before the bats came alive in the third. Rockland broke the ice on a Marcus Nidiffer solo shot. In the bottom half, the Capitales responded with three runs.

D’Vontrey Richardson singled to bring home Marcus Knecht while Yordan Manduley hit one of his own to drive in Richardson and Philippe Craig-St-Louis. A Salazar balk put the two in scoring position.

Quebec made it 4-1 in the sixth on a Jordan Lennerton double which scored Yurisbel Gracial. Salazar would get the next three batters and conclude the night with six innings, five hits, four runs (three earned), five strikeouts and two walks.

Sikula took the mound in the seventh and came away unscathed to end his outing with eight hits, one earned run, eight strikeouts and two walks. The Capitales got their fifth and final run in the bottom half on another Manduley single that brought home Craig-St-Louis.

Alex Farina would regather and toss a clean eighth, but the Boulders offense stayed quiet. Relievers Trevor Bayless and Miles Moeller allowed no hits in the last two innings to secure the Quebec win.

Rockland will try to avoid a series sweep tomorrow night at Stade Canac before returning to the ‘Empire State.’ First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
