The Rockland Boulders returned home to begin a series against the Trois-Rivieres Aigles, but started with a 6-5 loss. The defeat also snapped the Boulders seven-game winning streak.

The first two runs of the game came off a double by Marcus Nidiffer to score Dylan Tice and Joe Maloney in the first inning. Both teams added two runs in the third inning.

Trois-Rivieres got theirs on a home run by Julio Martinez with Brenden Webb on base. In the bottom of the frame, Joe Maloney scored on an E8 after Mike Montville singled. Montville later came home on an RBI single by Daniel Arribas to make the score 4-2.

However, the Aigles would tie the game in the next inning. After Daniel Mateo reached on an error and Trevor Gretzky walked, Connor Crane doubled to drive in a run. Webb’s sac fly as the next batter evened the score.

In the fifth, Maloney tripled and scored on a fielder’s choice by Nidiffer to put the Boulders back on top 5-4. Trois-Rivieres responded again as Alexander Ayala homered to tie the game back up again.

The Aigles loaded the bases in the eighth and a wild pitch allowed Carter McEachern to score giving the visiting team to take their first lead of the game. Trois-Rivieres threatened to extend their lead in the ninth as they loaded the bases, but Matt Kostalos was able to escape the jam to maintain the one-run difference.

Tice sparked a rally attempt by leading off the bottom of inning with a double and Maloney reached on an E5 to put runners on the corners with no outs. However, a double play and fly out ended the game.

Starter Ari Kaufman (0-5) took the loss with a seven-inning, six-run performance. Reliever Shaun Ellis (2-0) recorded the win by pitching two shutout innings. Trois-Rivieres starter Chris Murphy gave up five runs in six innings of work. The second game of the series will begin at 7 pm tomorrow.
