Boulders Split Doubleheader

​​After Tuesday nights rain out, the Rockland Boulders traded victories with the New Jersey Jackals in a Wednesday night double header. The Boulders suffered the loss in Game 1 by the score of 7-1 but answered back with an 8-7 victory in a thrilling Game 2. 

​​In Game 1, David Fischer took the loss for the Boulders after pitching 4 Innings, allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, 3 BB’s and 5 strikeouts. Zach Arneson received the win in relief for the Jackals. Arneson took over for Isacc Pavlikwho only pitched into the 3rd inning and gave up 2 hits, 0 runs, and struck out a batter. Two 3 run innings in the bottom of the 3rd and 5th were the ultimate demise for the Boulders in Game 1.  Art Charles and Brian Burgamy both drove in RBI singles in the 3rd to give the Jackals a 3-0 lead. The Jackals extended their lead to 7-0 after a Daniel Rockett walk, a Yariel Vargas RBI single and a Robert De La Hoz sacrifice fly.  The Boulders got on the board in the top of the 7th when Cody Regis reached base on a dropped 3rd strike, which allowed Jon Smith to score the Boulders only run. 

​Bo Budkevics was on the mound for the Boulders in Game 2. Budkevics went 3 innings, gave up 5 hits, 5 BB’s, 4 strikeouts and allowed 7 runs.  C.J Riefenhauser got the W in after pitching 2.0 innings, allowing 2 hits, 0 runs, 1 BB, and 3 punchouts. Andres Caceres started for New Jersey. Caceres went 4.2 innings, gave up 3 hits, 5 runs although 3 were earned, 7 BB’s and struck out 6.  Nate Gerken was on the losing end after allowing 2 runs to score in the 7th. 

​The New Jersey Jackals scored early in the 1st inning. Extra base hits by Rylan Sandoval, Brian Joynt, and Adam Martin gave the Jackals a 4-0 lead. In the top of the 3rd, the Boulders cut into the deficit by scoring 3 runs including a Jared McDonald RBI single. In the bottom of the 4th, the Jackals extended the lead to 4 after Art Charles drove in 2 runs off a single and Brian Burgamy delivered an RBI Single of his own. The Boulders entered the top of the 5thinning trailing 7-3, but answered with 2 runs with 2 bases loaded walks which made the score 7-5. The score would remain the same until the 7thinning.  Dylan Tice brought in another run by way of the base on balls. The Boulders would take an 8-7 lead after Joe Moloney delivered a clutch 2 run single. Pitcher Mayckol Guaipe shut the door 1,2,3 in the bottom of the 7th and picked up the save. 

​After Wednesday’s double header the Boulders record now stands at 61-34 on the season and are tied with the Quebec Capitales in the Can Am League Standings. The Rockland Boulders continue their series with the New Jersey Jackals tomorrow night at 7pm at Yogi Berra Stadium.
