Maloney Named CanAm League Rawlings Player of the Month

The Rockland Boulders and the CanAm League announced today that outfielder Joe Maloney has been named the CanAm League’s Rawlings Player of the Month.

 

Maloney, a 2017 CanAm League All Star, has had an amazing 2017 season so far, in his second go round with the team.  On August 26th, 2017, Maloney hit his CanAm League record breaking 32nd home run, breaking the previous record of 31 held by former Quebec Capitale Eddie Lantigua.  This past Wednesday in game two of the doubleheader against the Jackals, Maloney earned his ninety fifth RBI on the season, breaking the Boulders record of ninety four, held by Marcus Nidiffer set in 2015.  His thirty three home runs and ninety five RBI’s not only lead the Boulders, but currently leads the entire CanAm League in those respective categories as well. 

 

Over the month of August, Maloney has been on a tear, compiling twelve home runs, twenty seven hits, twenty six RBI’s, and has scored twenty eight runs in one hundred and thirteen at bats.  A native of Aston, Pa, Maloney, was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 10th round of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft, reaching as high as high A ball with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans of the Carolina League, before being released.  Maloney would spend the next two seasons after with the Boulders, before being picked up by the Minnesota Twins organization in 2016, reaching as high as double A with the Chattanooga Lookouts of the Southern League.
