Solid Pitching; Regis' Solo Home Run in 9th Seal the Win

The anticipation is over. The Can Am League playoffs finally got underway this evening after both semi final matchups were postponed due to inclement weather on Wednesday night.  The Boulders traveled to Yogi Berra stadium to face off against the New Jersey Jackals hoping to get a leg up to start off the series.  Pitching took the upper hand in tonight’s game, although runs were low suspense was at an all time high as the Boulders defeated the Jackals 3-1.

Richard Salazar took the mound and the W for the Boulders in Game 1 of the semi final round. Salazar went 5 2/3 innings, giving up 6 hits, 1 run, 4 BB’s and 4 strikeouts.  Fernando Cruz pitched for the Jackals who went 6 2/3 innings, 7 hits, allowed 2 runs, 1 BB, and struck out 8.

Daniel Arribas drove in 2 runs on a pair of RBI singles in the top of the 2nd and again in the top of the 5th.  Art Charles scored the Jackals 1 and only run in the bottom half of the 6th on a sacrifice fly by Joe Dunigan.

With 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th, Boulders closer Mayckol Guaipe came on in a crucial moment by striking out Adam Martin and stranding the tying run on 3rd base.

In the next half inning Cody Regis gave the Boulders some insurance by hitting a solo home run and extending the Boulder lead 3-1.

The Boulders will play Game 2 against the Jackals on Friday night at 7:05 pm at Yogi Berra Stadium. Game 3 will be played at Palisades Credit Union Park on Saturday night at 6:35 pm
