The Rockland Boulders great season came to an end after the Quebec Capitales completed their sweep of the Championship Series by a score of 9-3. Richard Salazar (6-4) struggled giving up seven runs in 4.2 innings to take the loss. Quebec’s Karl Gelinas (11-3) earned the win after going 7.1 innings and surrendering three Rockland wins.

Salazar’s night started rough with a leadoff triple by Yordan Manduley who also scored on an E4. Philippe Craig-St-Louis was then hit by a pitch and was followed by a walk to Yurisbel Gracial. Craig-St-Louis moved to third on a fly out and scored on a sac fly by Kalian Sams, who had five RBIs in Game 2.

The second inning was also a struggle. James McOwen singled and stole second with one out. Marcus Knecht’s groundball was then not fielded properly and an E5 put runners on the corners. Yordan Manduley drove in a run with a single and Craig-St-Louis loaded the bases with a base hit of his own. Gracial’s double brought home two more runs increasing the Capitales lead to 5-0.

Rockland cut into the deficit in the fourth starting with a leadoff walk to Dylan Tice. With two outs, Marcus Nidiffer homered for two runs. The team got another run in the fifth with a Mikael Mogues double and an RBI single by Tice.

However, Quebec’s offense got hot again in the bottom of the inning. Maxx Tissenbaum walked and Balbino Fuenmayor’s home run made the score 7-3. In the seventh, Fuenmayor homered again with Sams on base adding two more insurance runs.

The Boulders would not score again putting an end to their season. Although the Boulders fell short of their ultimate goal, it was a season full of high points including six All-Stars and a historic year by Joe Maloney. Rockland will return with championship aspirations in the 2018 season.
