Rockland Boulders standout and Can-Am League Most Valuable Player Joe Maloney's contract has been purchased by the Baltimore Orioles organization. Maloney, who smashed the league's single-season home run record with 35 to go with 101 runs batted in, has not yet been designated for assignment within the Baltimore organization.

In 2015, the Boulders' outfielder dominated in league play, being named as Baseball America's Independent Player of the Year before having his contract purchased by the Minnesota Twins. His return to the Boulders this season was punctuated by the chase for the home run record, in which Maloney surpassed the previous mark set in 2005 by Quebec's Eddie Lantigua.

"What Joe accomplished this season was breathtaking from beginning to end," stated Boulders' manager Jamie Keefe. "He did anything we could have asked for and to put up the kind of numbers he did in a 99 game season was something special to be a part of."

For his own part, the slugger paid tribute to the Rockland faithful while embracing another new challenge. "It's an exciting opportunity I've got coming at me and I'm going to make the most of it. I want to thank everyone in the Boulders organization and especially all the fans for the love and support they've shown me over the last few years. I appreciate everything they've done for me and I'm excited for this new chapter of my life."
