Cody Regis, Conrad Gregor and Mike Montville each recorded multiple hits in a 15-hit comeback effort that fell short in a 9-8 loss to the Trois-Rivières Aigles to open the Boulders’ seven-day road trip on Friday. Regis hit one double and three singles, Gregor hit one double and one single and Montville hit three doubles.

After falling behind the Aigles 7-0 in the first inning, the Boulders quickly responded with two runs in the second. Trois-Rivières scored one run in the fourth inning, and then Rockland’s bats came alive in the top of the fifth to drive in four more runs to make the score 8-6.

Rockland had bases loaded with only one out in both the sixth and seventh innings but did not score a run in either. The Boulders eventually broke through again in the eighth inning to tack on two more runs, bringing the score to 9-8.

Nick Kennedy, Travis Hissong, Garrett Johnson and Matt Kostalos combined for eight innings of strong relief pitching after Kagen Hopkins was taken out after the first, keeping Rockland’s chances of a comeback alive. Down by one run in the top of the ninth, Mikael Mogues, Jared McDonald and Kevin Krause each flew out to right field for a 1-2-3 inning to end the game.

Rockland faces Trois-Rivières in game two of the three-game series Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The Boulders return home Friday, June 1, at 6:30 p.m. against the New Jersey Jackals.
