The Can-Am League announced on Monday that Rockland Boulders starter Ryan Deemes has been suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount for his role in a bench-clearing melee during Saturday's 5-3 loss to the New Jersey Jackals at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, New Jersey.

Deemes, who had sat out Sunday's series finale in New Jersey, has two games remaining, which he will serve on Tuesday when the Boulders host the Sussex County Miners in a 10:35 am double-header.

Tensions flared in the top of the sixth inning when Marcus Nidiffer scored on Conrad Gregor's double to break a 1-1 tie. On the play, Rockland's captain came in standing and in a collision, dislodged the ball from Jackals catcher Kevin Torres. The hosts took exception to the play, briefly emptying the bench without incident (note that the Can Am League does not employ the mandatory slide rule utilized in Major League Baseball).

On the ensuing pitch, New Jersey starter Mat Latos brushed back Rockland's Kevin Krause with an inside fastball, and when the next pitch sailed over Krause's head, Deemes took issue and left the Boulders dugout to clash with Latos, with both players being ejected on the play.

As the Can Am League does not release suspension information, public notice of any possible actions against members of the New Jersey Jackals is not currently available. Deemes will be eligible to return to the Boulders lineup when his team hosts the Sussex County Miners on Wednesday night at Palisades Credit Union Park.
