In danger of getting swept for the first time in almost a month, the Boulders weren’t ready to go down easy against the Jackals. Behind  a solid outing from Garret Johnson and five home runs, the red, white, and blue hung on to beat 12 to 3 on Thursday night.

Rockland was held hitless until the fifth inning when Kevin Krause and Mikael Mogues cranked back-to-back jacks to start the frame. After newly acquired Boulder Brandon Martinez walked and Conor Biernfeldt singled, Cody Regis smacked his 12th homer of the year well over the right field wall.

The Jackals responded with three in the bottom half of the inning on a three-run homer by first baseman Dean Green. That’s all New Jersey could muster against Johnson, who finished with a line of 7 innings, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts.

After Rockland added 4 more in the 8th, due in part to four consecutive RBI doubles, Nick Kennedy and Kyle Hansen closed the door to send the Boulders into their next series––against Salina Stockade tomorrow––on a positive note.

Rockland returns home for a 7pm start, then.
