Game Duration Down 9% in 2018

In analysis released by the Can Am League last week, game duration for the 2018 season has been reduced by an average of 21 minutes (nine percent) per contest for the year to date.

Pace of play rules have been a focus of attention and innovation among league executives in recent years, with the league implementing the use of the International Tiebreaker Rule to reduce the length of extra-inning games, and this year's focus on speed up rules.

In advance of the 2018 season, the Can Am announced detailed rules for both pitchers and batters designed to keep play moving at an increased pace. In full support of the implementation, the Rockland Boulders became the league's first team to actually display the time clock on its stadium ribbon board (pictured), and all six teams have experienced significant reductions in game time, with the current duration now averaging 2:47 per contest.
