Less than a week ago, the Boulders (30-28) struggled to find wins against the Capitals (35-23) north of the border. They had no trouble cruising to their first victory in nearly a week as they topped Quebec 7-3 on Thursday night in the first a four game set.

Justin Brantley was looking to bounce back from a below-average start against Quebec last weekend. The right-hander tossed 128 pitches over 7.1 innings of three run ball (with only one being earned) while walking three and striking out seven.

Jamie Keefe’s offense got going from the beginning, scoring in the first on a Marcus Nidiffer 2-run single. The Capitals responded with one and two runs in the next two innings respectively but the Boulders broke through in the 4th. Mike Montville cranked a two run shot over the left field wall. Then, Conor Bierfeldt drove in two on a double to left. They’d add one more the next inning on a Jason Agresti sac fly.

Tommy Lawrence didn’t allow a baserunner over an inning and two thirds to close the door as Rockland snapped a four game skid.

Game two of the four game weekend series at Palisades Credit Union Park is tomorrow at 7:05pm EST.
