Southpaw Blanked NJ for 7 Innings

The Can Am League announced today that Rockland Boulders pitcher Garrett Johnson has been named the league's Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 29. This marks the first time Johnson has earned the honor.

In his lone outing of the week, the lanky, 6-10 southpaw turned in his best outing of the season, scattering four hits over seven shutout innings as Rockland topped the New Jersey Jackals by a 3-0 count on Sunday in Little Falls, NJ.

Though the Boulders' pitching staff has struggled this season, Johnson has led a resurgence among Rockland hurlers with three quality outings for victories in his last four starts. The squad's 3.94 team ERA in the month of July includes their current 10-game stretch in which the Boulders have gone 7-3 with a microscopic 1.86 team ERA, drawing to within 1/2 game of second place in the Can Am standings.

Johnson's award is the third captured this season by Boulders pitchers, with David Palladino (June 24, July 15) taking the other two. A trio of position players has won Pointstreak Player of the Week kudos, including Cody Regis (May 27), Conrad Gregor (June 17) and Marcus Nidiffer (July 15).

The Boulders are off Monday before traveling to Quebec to take on the Capitales in a three-game series starting Tuesday night.
