Game 2 Thursday Night

A six-run fourth inning propelled the Quebec Capitales to a 9-6 victory over the Rockland Boulders in Game 1 of the Can Am League semi-finals at Palisades Credit Union Park on Wednesday night.

Rockland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the home second on the strength of a JC Rodriguez RBI single, but Quebec drew even on Kalian Sams' two-run blast to deep center field in the fourth. A two-out error in that same inning opened the door for four unearned runs, knocking Boulders starter David Palladino out of the box.

Despite Conor Bierfeld's titanic blast leading off the bottom of the sixth, the hosts trailed at 9-4 entering their final at bat. RBIs by Marcus Nidiffer and Cody Regis brought the Bierfeldt to the plate as the potential tying run, but Capitales closer Trevor Bayless came on with a strikeout to end the rally, making a winner of starting pitcher Jay Johnson.

The series resumes with Game 2 on Thursday night at 7:00 at Palisades Credit Union Park with Brian Ernst starting for the Boulders against Quebec's Brett Lee. The series then shifts to Quebec City for Game 3 Friday, and the remaining games on Saturday and Sunday, if necessary.
