Salazar was drafted in the 13th round by the Baltimore Orioles out of Miami-Dade College in 2001.
He played with the Orioles until 2007 when he was released, and since then he has been playing in independent baseball, including the past two seasons with the Rockland Boulders.
His best season in Independent baseball actually was with the Boulders in his age-33 season, when he pitched to a 3.15 ERA in 20 starts, posting an 11-4 record, and averaging 7.2 strikeouts per nine innings.
